Submission Guidelines

2026 Juneteenth Tiny Tales Competition — Submission Guidelines

We invite writers of all backgrounds and experience levels to submit bold, original works of short fiction. Whether you specialize in precision storytelling or immersive flash narratives, we want to celebrate your work! 

Note the theme, though! Competitive entries will be liberatory tales on topics as disparate as muskets and mustard seeds, as distant as Texas and Triangulum Australe, so bring your weirdest worlds and tightest sixteens. Make an allusion. Remind folks of what we forgot. Dream up a freer tomorrow. Break some rules if you want. Share the good news of emancipation!

Categories

Micro Fiction:

  • Word count: 0–200 words
  • Submission fee: $5
  • $250 in cash awards

Flash Fiction

  • Word count: 201–1000 words
  • Submission fee: $10
  • $500 in cash awards

General Guidelines

  • All submissions must be original, unpublished work, written by humans. Use of AI tools beyond autocorrect and boilerplate thesaurus suggestions are prohibited. This includes but is not limited to common free and paid tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, etc. Violations of this guideline result in immediate disqualification, at Adze & Crown’s discretion. It’s a thousand words. Write about AI; don’t cheat with it here.
  • Simultaneous submissions are allowed, but please notify us immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere.
  • Multiple submissions in this competition  are welcome; each entry requires a separate submission and fee.
  • Submissions that exceed the word count limits will not be considered. Refunds will not be granted. Titles are not included in word counts
  • All genres and styles are accepted.
  • Multiple submissions allowed (submit a new form for each entry)

  • Submission Deadline: 11:59 PM (EST), June 19
  • Winners Announced: July 5!

Additional Notes

  • Please ensure your submission is carefully proofread before submitting.
  • Formatting should be clean and readable PDF (standard font, spacing, and margins).

  • Pay via the Stripe link at the end of submission form

  • In addition to a fiduciary award, winners and selected finalists may be featured in a publication or promotional materials. These details will be communicated as relevant. Have fun! Thank you for writing!
